Closed-Back Headphone Reviews
Closed-back studio monitoring headphones provide excellent sound isolation. This has two benefits for recording; it stops noise from the headphones being recorded by a microphone (such as when recording vocals or when recording acoustic instruments), and it also prevents the sound of loud instruments from drowning out the monitoring tracks (such as when recording drums). There are some excellent quality closed-back headphones on the market today that provide impressive sound, comfort, and noise isolation.
Individual closed-back headphone reviews can be found further down on this page. However, if you just want to know which pair we think provides the best balance between sound quality, performance, comfort and features, we’ve chosen the Audio Technica ATH-M50x. These headphones are versatile enough to be useful for both recording and mixing, providing excellent sound quality, comfort and isolation. If you only buy one pair of headphones for your studio, then we recommend that these should be the ones.
